We have a new favorite dog park. It’s got tons of room to run and explore, shade for humans and pups, picnic tables, and generally just makes us smile. Mom says she may bring a chair and a book next time.
Funny thing is, it only takes a few more minutes to get to than the park we usually visit, the one we considered closest. And while that one’s fine, this one’s got way more nooks and crannies to check out.
We’ve explored lots of new places we never would have if I hadn’t joined the family. There’s a terrific dog beach not far from us. I get to romp around in the sand and surf, while my family swims alongside me.
I love people, so I get to make new friends on the beach. The squeals of children giddily exclaiming how cute I am makes my tail wag and my mom smile. If they have a treat to offer, I proudly sit like the good girl I am, and then snatch it. I’m still working on being consistently gentle with the yummies.
After playing and visiting, I get to lay down under the umbrella while my mom enjoys some peace just listening to the lapping of the water on the beach, and maybe reading a book. I’m always down for playtime and lazy moments.
Exploring is my favorite, though (maybe tied with pillows).
And hikes! Even though we live in a small state, there are still a million places to explore. I’ve visited waterfalls, rivers and streams, beautiful fields of flowers, pumpkin patches, tree farms, apple orchards, mountains, playgrounds, a couple stores, fairs, camping, and even a castle! I’ve been canoeing — though not often enough.
My mom has made it a point to research where we can explore together. I have given her a reason to find new places in a state she has lived her entire life. Mom enjoys photography and because of the places we’ve found, in every season, she has captured some incredible scenes. I happen to be in quite a few.
Dog Friendly Explorations
Did you know that you can find loads of places to take your dog as well? A simple internet search will bring up tons of places that welcome us. Bring Fido is one of my aunt’s go-to’s, whether looking for trails, swimming, lodging, or restaurants.
You can even reach out to your friends on social media — they will chime in with suggestions that would never have occurred to you. There are great apps that let you know which trails will be appropriate to bring your dog along.
If I do say so myself, I am the perfect companion for any adventure. I love my road trips. Mom always has the best playlist or podcast for us to enjoy. Sometimes I watch out the window looking for other dogs traveling, but most often I just love to lay down on the floor and dream about all the fun times ahead.
My mom says that because of me, we explore more. What have you checked out because of dogs?
